Stephen Bridges is a career diplomat who joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London in 1980. He has served in several significant appointments throughout Asia, including his role as British ambassador to Cambodia (2001 to 2004)—and as deputy high commissioner, consul general, and trade and investment director in Bangladesh (2005 to 2007). After four years in the private sector in the renewable energy and natural resources sectors, Bridges served as a leader in human resources and workforce issues for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office from 2009 to 2013. He accepted his post as British consul general in Chicago in August 2013.
