Following his five years as minister and deputy chief of mission for the Permanent Mission of Austria to the United Nations in New York, Hans Peter Manz served with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Vienna for two decades (1979 through 1999). Manz's previous appointments include his roles as foreign policy advisor to the federal chancellor (2000–07), head of the department for political integration and international cooperation for justice and home affairs at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Vienna (2000), and temporary head of the Department for International Organizations (1999–2000). From 2007 to 2011, Manz served as Austrian ambassador in Bern, Switzerland. In 2007, he served with the Office of Vice Chancellor and Minister for Finance. He was appointed Austrian ambassador to the United States in 2011.
